Rural Development Trust (RDT), empowering adolescent girls is at the core of our mission, and vocational training plays a critical role in providing them with the tools to shape their futures. With the support of Jamaila Tailoring Training Centre (JTTC) and World Neighbors, RDT has been able to offer tailoring and Mithila painting training to young girls in Madhubani, transforming them into self-reliant entrepreneurs and artists.
Through the Tailoring Training Program, RDT has reached over 5500 adolescent girls, teaching them the art of garment making, stitching, and designing. These girls have not only gained a valuable skill but have also become small business owners, running their own tailoring ventures in their communities. The empowerment that comes from learning such a trade is immense—these young women are now able to support their families, contribute to their household income, and have gained the confidence to pursue their dreams. Many of them have gone on to open small tailoring businesses or work as independent seamstresses, with some even hiring other women to help expand their businesses.
RDT has partnered with World Neighbors to provide Mithila painting training to 3000 adolescent girls. Mithila painting, a traditional art form from the region, has not only become a source of livelihood for these girls but has also helped preserve a rich cultural heritage. The training equips the girls with the skills to create beautiful, intricate artwork, which they now sell in local markets and beyond. This opportunity has opened up new avenues for income, giving them a sense of pride and a platform to showcase their creativity.
Both of these vocational training programs have had a transformative impact on the lives of adolescent girls, enabling them to become leaders in their communities and break free from the cycle of poverty.
